When developer Brian McKeon of MKN Property Group wanted to create a family home he turned to Trinity, Castle Road, Clontarf, a detached house with lots of room for his three boys and their friends.
The last house on a corner site in a cul de sac just off Castle Avenue, on almost a third of an acre, had lots of potential and he expanded the existing house supersizing it to a three-storey structure, 381sq metres (4,100sq ft) in size, in 2004.
McKeon has plenty of experience in the building game, most recently completing the luxurious Seascape apartments, nearby on Dollymount Park and The Elms, Ridgewood, Swords and he would also be known for the Bank of Ireland site in Ranelagh and Burrow Heath in Sutton.

Trinity was designed by Brian O’Halloran Architects who roofed the extension and garden room in copper and added lots of glazing, at different levels to allow light stream in at all times of the day. Tilt and slide glazing by Danish brand Idealcombi gives direct access to the garden from both kitchen and lounge areas.
Integrated
At the lounge end a Faber gas-fuelled ceramic log fire is the focal point. Cherrywood units and an island topped with quartz counters furnishes the other end. The island has a pull-up extractor and sockets, a five-ring induction hob and double Miele ovens have been integrated into the wall units. Off the kitchen is a good-sized utility with plenty of storage and a den, accessed via glass sliding doors.
Off the large hall is a formal sitting room with a sandstone fireplace accessed via double doors. Across the hall is a study with built-in bookcases – a room that almost gets forgotten as there is so much space elsewhere.
But the huge kitchen cum family room spanning the width of the house, accessible from the sitting room via sliding doors and down a set of steps will really sell this property.
Overlooking the garden the glazed extension feels very secluded as the lawned rear has high hedging on all three sides. A lovely garden room sits at the far end of the garden as a place of escape.
The master bedroom is on the first floor. A private staircase leads up to the next floor where there is a delightful day room with Velux windows that open out to take in the spectacular view of Dublin Bay, Dublin Port and the mountains beyond. It is a fantastic addition to the property.
There are four more bedrooms, three on the first floor and another on the second floor.
From the front there is little sense of the scale of this house, but standing in the back garden the height of the elevation is striking. The property, which is located around the corner form Clontarf Castle, is asking €2 million through agents Gallagher Quigley.
