New York loft look in former factory

THE LOUNGE of 36 The Warehouse started off with a great staple of the art deco look - a parquet floor. The floor was salvaged when the former shoe and underwear factory was being redeveloped into apartments.

The owners have built up a collection of art deco lamps and furniture over the years which give the room a Manhattan loft-style vibe. A similar pair of 1930s chrome uplighters will cost about €1,500. A pair of French 1925-1930 satin birch art deco corner shelving units like the ones here would cost in the region of €8,000 to €10,000 says antique dealer Paul Johnston (01 4732384).

Interior designer Jill Hall (087 2860734) says the room is all about light, space and the view so the colour palette was kept simple so as not to distract. The Karina Sherlock Italian leather ivory sofa is from House and Garden Presentation Services (01-2011712) and cost €2,550. There are a few bold statement pieces like the 1950s lamp and the gilt edged circular mirror by Carol Booth (086 246 9131).
