One of Dublin's best known art deco buildings, the Bord Gais premises at D'Olier Street, has finally come on the market following the decision to relocate to a new headquarters at Foley Street in the north-east inner city. The company is retaining an adjoining ground floor office on D'Olier Street. Agents GVA Donal O'Buachalla are quoting a guide price of over £8 million (10.2m) for the main D'Olier Street building which has over 7,500 sq ft of showrooms - part of them double height with an atrium. The balance of the 35,000 sq ft of space is located in two overhead floors and along a narrow lane known as Leinster Market, ending in a Tudor-style building fronting on to Hawkins Street.

There is parking for approximately eight cars on the ground floor along Hawkins Street. The purchaser may well run the showrooms as a separate retail entity from the offices.

Dublin property developer John Byrne is likely to be among those chasing the Gas Company building, as he already owns blocks on either side - O'Connell Bridge House, now being refurbished, and D'Olier House which is rented by the Office of Public Works.

The premises has been occupied by gas companies since 1825. It was redeveloped in 1928 by the Alliance and Dublin Gas Company, using polished grey and black Scottish granite on the front faτade.
