Treasury Holdings's hopes to build an eight-storey apartment building next to the Jurys Inn hotel in Parnell Street, Dublin, have been dashed by the appeals board.
Keelgrove Properties, a subsidiary of Treasury Holdings, had drawn up plans to build 39 apartments and a shop at 17-19 Moore Lane, a 700sq m (7,567sq ft) triangular site at the corner of Parnell Street.
The scheme was turned down by Dublin city council which said it would result in an "unacceptable congested form of development". The developers appealed this decision to An Board Pleanála but it upheld the council's decision, refusing permission for the scheme. The planning board said the proposed development is of "poor architectural value". Describing the site as "sensitive", An Bord Pleanála said it was close to the architectural conservation area of O'Connell Street and a protected structure at 70 Parnell Street.
