Shopfront: The gift shop in the Chester Beatty Library isn't a place most people think of going to unless they are visiting the museum, but their new stock has many interesting bits and pieces for the home and small gifts.

And unlike many museum shops, these aren't touristy stuff but themed around the Oriental artworks on display.

Amongst the nicest things are Chinese snuff bottles hand-painted on the inside of the glass (€26 to €50).

Traditional clay Chinese teapots in brown, black or beige (€35 to €70) are both decorative and practical.

There are a few bigger items too, such as small Indian tables, which could be used as side tables to an armchair, in a brown red wood similar to rosewood.

Although small in size, these cost an incredibly low €15-€35.

Also worth looking at - if you like Eastern style - are wool rugs from Tibet and Rajanstan with unusual patterns and colours.

One of the best is blue with colourful dragonflies, frogs and lotus.

Others have geometric yellow and burgundy patterns. Visit too for sweet, non-glitzy Christmas decorations such as a papier mâché moon and stars from Kashmir and cloth angels.
