WHILE SOME OF the rooms at 6 Ardoyne Mews are still faithful to the pared-back style in which the development was built seven years ago, the hall has undergone a few changes to give it a more eclectic feel.

Take the clay statue of George Washington, for example, made in the south of France and sourced by Architectural Classics ( 01-677 3557). |t cost around €5,000 five years ago.

The original frosted glass in the front and internal doors was replaced with leaded glass made to the owner’s design. He wanted to introduce a more old world look to the hall. Enda Hanlon, a glass specialist (01-473 3044), says a fairly detailed average-sized (10ins by 30ins) stained glass panel for a front door would cost in the region of €300-€350.

The vibrant red wool carpet is from the Belgian Louis de Poorter range and the colour is Richelieu Velvet, which costs €132 a sq m, supplied and fitted by Window Fashions (01-490 1655) in Terenure. It is bound at the sides to take away the raw edge. The chrome stair rods cost around €90 each.

One of the most dramatic features of the hall is the toughened bolted glass on the staircase. Wexford Viking Glass (0)53 9144111) say the glass would need to be at least 15ml thick to be effective. A sheet this size would cost in the region of €1,500.
