Just a month to go before students get their CAO offer of a college place and the scramble for accommodation for those living away from home begins, with sky-high rents making this even more stressful than usual.
Now 471 new student rooms have just been launched on the market but, in a sign of the times, they are already booked out for the coming academic year.
They're being offered by the UK-based Student Housing Company in a purpose-built block on Bonham Street near Dublin city centre, sandwiched south of the Liffey between Thomas Street and the quays.
Called Binary Hub, it comprises a series of clusters of rooms – each with its own en suite shower and small study area – built around a central living/kitchen/dining space.
Included in the monthly rent – starting from €206 per week – are all bills and access to an on-site gym, laundry, bike storage and a landscaped garden.
A company called Threesixty Developments is behind it, and in the next two years they are planning 821 more student rooms in developments on Gardiner Lane and Dorset Street on Dublin’s north side.
