A record price for a Howth house was achieved yesterday at auction when a businessman paid £3.87 million (#4.92 million) for a five-bedroom Georgian house on one of the best sites in the Baily area. The two-storey house, The Tansey on Ceanchor Road, stands on eight acres of terraced gardens and sweeping lawns with stunning views over Dublin Bay.

Bidding at the Finnegan Menton auction opened at £2 million (#2.54m) and with four parties chasing the property, bids of £200,000 (#253,947) were registered until it reached the £3 million (#3.81m) mark. At that stage, the individual bids dropped to £100,000 (#126,973) and by the time it reached £3.75 million (#4.76m) three of the bidders were still on their feet. Auctioneer Iain Finnegan declared the house on the market at £3.8 million (#4.82m) and after three further bids of £25,000 (#31,743) each, it was knocked down to the eventual buyer.

The house dates from the 1740s and has four reception rooms, a conservatory, five bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a floor area of 4,600 sq ft. In Sutton, Dublin 13, a four-bedroom bungalow at 28 Dublin Road sold at a HOK Residential auction for £540,000 (#685,658).

In Dublin 5, 2 Cedar Walk, Raheny, sold prior to auction for £430,000 (#545,987) through Sherry FitzGerald.

A three-bedroom cottage on 10.5 acres, Woodbine Cottage in Donabate, Co Dublin, sold at auction for £625,000 (#793,586) by Ganly Walters.

In Skerries, Co Dublin, a five-bedroom house, Armadale on South Strand, was withdrawn by Douglas Newman Good, which is seeking £550,000 (#698,355).

Daphne L Kaye & Associates secured a strong price of £1,255,000 (#1.59m) at auction for Woodview, on Gordon Avenue in Foxrock.

The same agent withdrew a five-bedroom bungalow, Amberley, The Coppins on Brighton Road, at £550,000 (#698,355).

Still in Foxrock, Dublin 18, Gunne Residential is seeking £725,000 (#920,560) for Gerrards, a bungalow on Hainault Park following its withdrawal from auction.

Elsewhere in South Dublin, a six-bedroom house at 13 Beech Court, Killiney, was withdrawn at £500,000 (#634,869) and sold later for a higher figure through Sherry FitzGerald.

Still in Killiney, 8 Ashurst, a five-bedroom bungalow was withdrawn at £750,000 (#952,303) and sold later for a higher figure through Sherry FitzGerald.

Lisney sold Torca Cottage, on Torca Road, Dalkey, for over the withdrawal figure of £950,000 (#1.20m) after auction.

Douglas Newman Good is quoting over £570,000 (#723,750) for Tranquility, a bungalow at 1 Saval Park Gardens, Dalkey, after it failed to sell at auction.

Still in Dalkey, Ardeevin House, a four-bedroom house on Ardeevin Road, was withdrawn by HOK Residential which is seeking £1.1m (#1.42m).

In Dun Laoghaire, 1 and 2 Marine Terrace, an investment property in 10 units with a mews, was withdrawn by Lisney, which is quoting £1.3m (#1.65m).

A townhouse at 11 de Vesci Terrace, Monkstown, was withdrawn at £400,000 (#507,895) by Jackson-Stops, which is seeking £450,000 (#571,382).

A four-bedroom house, Finure at 47 Frascati Park in Blackrock, was withdrawn at £400,000 (#507,895) and sold later for about £430,000 (#545,987) through Sherry FitzGerald.

A five-bedroom house at 12 Stillorgan Grove, Blackrock, was withdrawn by Lisney, which is quoting £780,000 (#990,395)

Also in Blackrock, a six-bedroom house, Neubarry, Grove Avenue, was withdrawn at £950,000 (#1.20m) by McNally Handy.

In Mount Merrion, 41 Sycamore Road sold after auction for over the guide of £600,000 (#761,842) by Lisney.

Also in Mount Merrion, 10 Redesdale Road, a three-bedroom bungalow, was withdrawn at £350,000 (#444,408) and sold later for higher by Lisney.

Elsewhere in Mount Merrion, a four-bedroom house, Hadley, on Foster Avenue, was withdrawn by Douglas Newman Good, which is seeking about £525,000 (#666,612).

In Sandymount, Dublin 4, 24 Newgrove Avenue, a threebedroom house sold at auction for £425,000 (#539,638) through Bennetts.

A four-bedroom house at 1 Merlyn Park, Ballsbridge, sold prior to auction for over the guide of £820,000 (#1.04m) through HOK Residential.

In Milltown, 103 Ramleh Park, a three-bedroom house sold under the hammer for £365,000 (#463,454) through deVere White & Smyth.

Off Appian Way, 9 Winton Road, a four-bedroom Victorian house was withdrawn at £1.5m (#1.90m) and is under negotiation through Bergins.

On Cowper Road, Rathmines, Number 72, a five-bedroom house, was withdrawn by Douglas Newman Good which is seeking £725,000 (#920,560).

In Greystones, a threebedroom bungalow, Farfield on New Road, sold at a JacksonStops auction for £470,000 (#596,776).

A three-bedroom house at 4 Scott Park, Boghall Road, Bray, sold at a H.J. Byrne auction for £180,000 (#228,552).

Private Treatywyse & Co sold Fastnet, a four-bedroom house on Ballygihen Avenue, Sandycove, for just under £900,000 (#1.14m).

In Dun Laoghaire, 12 Mulgrave Terrace, a three-bedroom house, was sold for over £495,000 (#628,520) by Sherry FitzGerald.

In Co Wicklow, JacksonStops secured over £500,000 (#634,869) for a five-bed house on an acre at 4 The Grove, Redford, Greystones.

H.J. Byrne sold An Oige Hostel on 0.25 acres in Glencree, Co Wicklow for over £300,000 (#380,921).

In Co Galway, Roscam, a three-bedroom detached house in Oranmore, sold at a Sherry FitzGerald auction for £362,000 (#459,645).

Murphy & Sons sold a cottage on 12 acres at Collooney, Co Sligo, at auction for £126,000 (#159,987).

In Kilkenny, a five-bedroom house on 3.5 acres, Avondale on Sion Road, was withdrawn at £450,000 (#571,382) by Sherry FitzGerald-McCreery, which is quoting about £550,000 (#698,355). In Co Kildare, Ryvale House, a six-bedroom period house on 1.75 acres in Leixlip, was withdrawn by Lisney, which is quoting £2.25m (#2.85m).

Near Athboy, Co Meath, 11 acres on Kells Road was withdrawn at £800,000 (#1.01m) by Raymond Potterton.

Also in Co Meath, the same agent auctioned 24 acres of non-residential land in two lots at Longwood Village, Longwood: Lot 1, 12 acres, was withdrawn at £200,000 (#253,947) while Lot 2 also with 12 acres was withdrawn at £200,000 (#253,947).

Meanwhile, the T.E. Potterton agency sold 5 Emmet Street, Trim, Co Meath at auction for £200,000 (#253,947) and a five-acre holding at Fearmore, Trim for £58,000 (#73,644).

A 751 sq m office building at 5 Schoolhouse Lane East, in Dublin 2, was sold at auction for £3.4m (#4.31m) by DTZ Sherry FitzGerald.

Also in Dublin 2, 8 Adelaide Court, a modern office building, sold at auction for £610,000 (#774,540) by Spain Courtney Doyle.

In Rathmines, a 0.38-acre site with planning permission for 27 apartments on Grove Road was withdrawn at £2m (#2.53m) and is under negotiation with DTZ Sherry FitzGerald.

Morriseys withdrew O'Reillys public house at 17-18 Thomas Street, Dublin 8, at £925,000 (#1.17m).

In Co Laois, Deadman's Inn on 0.5 acres at Ballyfin, Portloise, was sold at auction through Matt Dunne for £475,000 (#603,125).

In Co Clare, Bill McGregors Pub and Restaurant in Sixmilebridge was withdrawn at £340,000 (#431,710) by Sherry FitzGerald-McMahon Commercial, which is quoting £500,000 (#634,869).

In Waterford, The Reginald public house at The Quay was withdrawn at £3.1m (#3.93m) and is under negotiation through Insignia Richard Ellis Gunne.
