A four-bedroom house on Marlborough Road, Donnybrook is guiding £625,000 (€793,590) prior to auction on 22nd May with Hamilton Osborne King.

Number 77a was once owned by Brendan Smith of the Brendan Smith Academy of Dramatic Art and his wife actor Beryl Fagan. Completely different in height and style from other houses on the road, the house was built in the 1930s in the long front garden of a cottage, now accessed via a rear laneway.

As the 1,600 sq ft redbrick property was built after the adjoining Victorian houses on both sides, walls are of a double thickness and are particularly sound-proof. The present owners have renovated the house, installing a new kitchen, rewiring and retiling the roof.

A bright study to the front of the house is used as a home office. Across the hall, the sittingroom has deep pre-war style coving, a box bay window and a marble fireplace fairly recently installed. Double doors lead to a diningroom, which has French doors to a paved terrace. The kitchen is probably the most stylish room in the house, with ash units, a quarry-tiled floor and dark ceiling beams. A tiled fireplace discovered when the new kitchen was being installed is fitted with a cast iron wood-burning stove.
