The family room at Ladytown Stables (see page 6) is a cosy atmospheric space off the kitchen which, despite its nod to the ecclesiastical in the form of a church-shaped door, is a very down to earth family space.

The owners didn't want a room that looked too precious so went for a comfortable, country look that steers clear of anything fussy or impractical.

The furniture came from the family business Jondol Furniture Collection (045 431213). The corner sofa, ideal for family gatherings, cost €3,200 and the cream leather tub chairs are €399 each . The walls are painted in Farrow Ball Fawn which offsets the imposing exposed brick.

The cushions, which incorporate all the soothing taupes and creams in the room, are from Blue Door, Naas (01 6279855 www.thebluedoordirect.com) and cost around €47. The Mexican pine chest in the centre of the room, was originally a tack box that was used in the RDS in 1997.
