Dublin 14: €2.4mA 1960s bungalow has been given a comprehensive makeover and is now a spacious modern house in walk-in condition, writes Bernice Harrison
The leafy estate of mostly detached bungalows built off Roebuck Road in the 1960s was, at the time, the last word in upmarket modernity. Driving through it these days it's clear that a lot of the houses have now been updated and extended and that's what has happened to 1 Salamanca, Ardilea.
Three years ago it was extensively renovated: for example, the entire roof was raised to increase the head height of the upstairs bedrooms, and the 255sq m (2,750sq ft) dormer bungalow is now for auction through Lisney on March 22nd with an AMV of €2.4 million.
There are five bedrooms, four reception rooms and as well as all this space, the impressive eat-in kitchen is likely to prove this house's strongest selling point.
It is fitted out with smart cream painted timber units and a large island and it comes complete with Aga and Neff appliances.
The hand-made units are finished with both cherrywood and granite worktops and the flooring - there is underfloor heating - is Spanish marble.
This room has been extended out by the addition of a tall, mostly glazed pitched-roof extension and this is now a large, sunny dining area. Off the kitchen is a roomy utility room. The four reception rooms are made up of an interconnecting formal living and diningroom as well as a family room and another livingroom. One of the five bedrooms is on this level and there is also a good-sized shower room which like all the other bathrooms in the house, has been fitted out to a high standard with contemporary fittings and ceramic tiles.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms as well as a family bathroom. The main bedroom incorporates a full-size shower room en suite and all the bedrooms have built-in wardrobes.
As everything is so recently finished, the house is in top condition - even the butter- coloured carpet in the livingroom is pristine - so new owners will have nothing to do.
The bungalow is on a particularly attractive, open-aspect corner site so the detached house is not overlooked and the mature garden which was recently landscaped to include outdoor lighting and a gravelled parking area is to the front and side.
