The Irish Times IAVI Tennis Tournament this year was a roaring success and as hotly contested as ever
For the third year on the trot Savills HOK walked away as winners of The Irish Times IAVI Tennis Tournament held in Lansdowne Tennis Club last week.
The winning team - Anne Kiernan, Mary Burke, Arash Akbarian and Gerry McCarthy - were presented with The Irish Times Perpetual Trophy by Peter Dargan, Property Advertising Manager of The Irish Times.
Savills HOK 1 beat Hooke & MacDonald 3 (David Cantwell, Ken MacDonald, Ciara Gallagher and Lorraine Andrews) in the final.
The competition attracted 18 teams, with Savills HOK and Hooke and MacDonald entering three each. Amongst those taking part were teams from DTZ, CBRE, The Irish Times, Sherry FitzGerald, Daphne Kaye & Associates, the Law Society, Knight Frank Ganly Walters, and Sherry FitzGerald New Homes.
The team from Daphne L Kaye & Associates (Daphne Kaye, Gladys Daly, Martin Gilmartin and Neil King) fought its way to the semi-finals before being knocked out by Hooke & MacDonald 3 while the Law Society (Veronica Donnelly, Mary Fenelon, PJ Connolly and Jim Ryan) was knocked out in the other semi final by Savills HOK 1.
By all accounts there was an excellent atmosphere at the competition, especially as it didn't rain on the tournament for the first time in years. Teams knocked out in earlier rounds headed for the well-attended barbecue or the bar.
The hotly contested tennis-fest is traditionally held before estate agents gear up for a busy autumn season. Originally intended as a purely social outing, over the years it has become a bit of a white-knuckle event, with agencies taking the whole thing very seriously and bringing their not inconsiderable sense of competitiveness to bear on the proceedings.
