Two new seaside holiday home developments - one in Co Wexford and one at Achill Sound, Co Mayo - come on the market this weekend, with prices ranging from £69,950 and £89,950.
In both cases, the agent handling the sales, Hooke & MacDonald, is to sell the homes from plans at its Property Showcase, which opens today at the St Helen's Radisson Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Dublin. The £12 million scheme at Courtown, Co Wexford, features two-bedroom and threebedroom holiday cottages and houses. The scheme, known as Riverchapel View, is situated on an elevated site, a short distance from the harbour.
The development should be of interest to investors seeking Section 23 tax incentives or to people seeking a holiday home, within easy reach of Dublin.
Comprising 140 units, there is a dominant "cottage style" theme, with a mixture of single-storey and two-storey homes. Built by Pat Neville Developments, the houses have good living and bedroom accommodation. There is a private area at the rear of each home and there are good open space play areas and tennis courts. Nearby, there is a wide variety of leisure facilities.
The first phase being sold off the plans comprises 33 houses. Prices range from £69,950 to £74,950 for the twobedroom cottages and from £89,950 to £99,950 for the three-bedroom houses. The second scheme which the agent is launching comprises two-bedroom and threebedroom holiday cottages at Achill Sound, Co Mayo. Situated on a site overlooking the sea, the homes enjoy panoramic views.
Traditional in design, the cottages are laid out in clusters of two and three units. Architect Patrick Carr has designed two different house types. The first is a two-bedroom, single-storey cottage and the second is a three-bedroom, two-storey house.
All cottages have two car-parking spaces and landscaping to the front areas. There is also a children's play area.
Prices for the first phase of 10 cottages start at £89,950 for two-bedroom houses with about 740 sq ft, and from £104,950 for the threebedroom houses of 1,010 sq ft. Building work has just started and should be completed by early next summer.
