MONKSTOWN €1.8M:A SUBSTANTIAL five-bedroom Victorian house overlooking the sea in Monkstown, Co Dublin, has just come on the market through Sherry FitzGerald asking €1.8 million.

Number 14 Trafalgar Terrace stands high above Seafield Avenue and is one of a row of imposing stucco houses that were built in the mid-1800s and named in memory of the of the Battle of Trafalgar. Behind the house is a 110 ft west-facing back garden.

Number 14 has seen better days, and new owners will need a substantial budget to restore its 332sq m (3,575sq ft).

On the plus side, many of the house’s original features remain, such as ornate cornicing, working shutters and original fireplaces.

Killiney €795,000

IN KILLINEY, Lisney is asking €795,000 for Inislachan, a quaint creeper-clad bungalow on a large corner site on Seafield Road that’s new to the market.

The four-bedroom property stands on the corner of Killiney Hill Road with the house towards the back of the site, leaving a large area of sheltered lawn in front.

The 122sq m (1,315sq ft) house dates from the 1950s and needs refurbishment. In fact, new owners may well buy it as a site and lob in planning permission for a far grander home. The existing house is modest and charming, with picture windows to make the most of the garden all around.

There are some notable features such as the hardwood parquet flooring which runs throughout most of the ground floor, and sunny kitchen which is warmed by an Aga.
