DUNCANNON North Lighthouse new New Ross in Co Wexford has been sold at auction for €300,000.

Auctioneers PN O’Gorman had guided €350,000 for the working lighthouse and three-bedroom cottage overlooking Waterford bay, which attracts a rent of €2,500 a year from the Port of Waterford.

Built in 1834, the lighthouse previously stood in Cork Harbour but was dismantled, shipped to Duncannon and transported up the hill by horse and cart.
