It takes about 40 minutes offpeak and at least an hour-and-a-half in rush hour to get to the quays from Naas. The road is good, but commuters from further south converge at the Naas roundabout en route for the city. The Kill section of the dual carriageway is usually slow. Also Newlands Cross and the M50 interchange. The quays are usually chock-a-block.

TRAIN

The 7.33 a.m. Arrow service from Sallins gets into Heuston Station at 8.05 a.m. and the 7.45 a.m. arrives at 8.20 a.m. Another at 8.22 a.m. arrives at 9.00 a.m. - too late for a nine o`clock start, taking into account the bus journey along the quays. Going home in the evening, a train at 5.35 p.m. arrives in Sallins at 6.06 p.m. and the 6.40 p.m. arrives at 7.10 p.m. The weekly return fare is £16. Naas commuters have to catch a link bus to and from the station at Sallins.

Three Bus Eireann services get to the city in time for a 9 a.m. start. The 7.33 a.m. arrives at Busaras at 8.05 a.m., the 7.45 a.m. arrives at 8.20 a.m. and the 8.22 a.m. gets to the city by 9.00 a.m. Going back, the 5.35 p.m. arrives in Naas at 6.06 p.m. and the 6.40 p.m. arrives at 7.10 p.m. A 10-journey ticket costs £17.50.

J J Kavanagh's private bus service leaves from The Gem newsagents in Naas at 7.35 a.m. and arrives at Custom House Quay at 8.40 a.m. In the evening, a bus at 5.00 p.m. gets to Naas at 5.45 p.m. and the 6.00 p.m. bus arrives at 6.40 p.m. The weekly return fare is £15. Despite bus lanes, the arrival times of all bus services could be extended, because of the volume of traffic on the N7.
