UK-BASED Parkman Environment company has been appointed by Bord Gais Eireann to handle the decontamination of its 22-acre site at Sir John Rogerson Quay in Dublin 2. "We will be conducting full-site surveys and rest bores initially to thoroughly check out the extent of any soil contamination and the physical nature of the site, said Parkman spokesman John Jones. "Once we have fully assessed the situation, we will then be able to recommend the most effective solutions. The assessment will be completed in May next, ready for decontamination work to start. The BGE site lies on land reclaimed from the Dublin estuary about 200 years ago. Parkman says a geo-physical survey is currently being carried out to investigate the possible existence of a void beneath the site, caused by tidal erosion. Such holes would require filling with gravel or concrete grout.
