Here's a small ad with a difference: "Have you always dreamed about living in a castle? Do you want a home fit for a king or queen? Magilla Entertainment and a major cable network are currently looking for fun, outgoing American couples who would like to buy a castle. . ." Some kind of joke surely. Nope. The successful candidates and a production team arrived here last week to film for a reality TV series due to air in the US in January.

Castle Hunters (a working title, apparently) follows young couples in their search for a castle – and there we were worrying about them getting on the property ladder.

Magilla – which apparently has previous experience in this area having produced Beachfront Bargain Hunt on the Homes and Gardens TV network – brought the happy couple along to see three properties in Cashel, Thurles and Galway. Though the properties were being kept a closely guarded secret, the Block has learned that Castle Leake in Cashel, Co Tipperary was one of them.

Lawrence Sweeney of Savills Cork office showed the Washington couple around the eight-bed 15th century Norman Castle on the banks of the Suir. A viewing like any other we gather, apart from the film crew poised at every turn to capture on film the first reaction on the faces of the couple as they entered each room.

Apparently they were quite taken with the all-round loveliness of it. So did they decide to snap up the €650,000 property there and then? Not quite, looks like they’ve gone away to think about it.

I guess we’ll have to wait for the TV show to air to find out.
