ShoparoundVintage lighting is the latest addition to Twentieth Century Furniture, a concession shop trading from Habitat's new store on Dublin's Suffolk Street.
Classic Italian glass lighting fixtures from the 1950s and wild pop-inspired creations from the 1960s have just arrived in store.
Hand-blown pieces from Italian company Mazzega dating from the 1950s cost between €1,500 and €2,000.
Check out the comet-style light fixture called "The Ball" by Verner Panton, a master of the fluid, futuristic style of 1960s design. Featuring bright pink, orange and red balls on a steel frame, it costs €1,800 and would be ideal to add a zany touch to a domestic setting or for a restaurant or nightclub.
A little more affordable and easy-to-place are the PH4 and PH5 pendant lights from Poul Henningsen which cost from €300.
Twentieth Century Furniture specialises in 20th century furniture with an emphasis on modern Scandinavian style. Pieces stocked by owner, Olivia Delaney, represent the work of Scandinavian modern designers, which was all about function - nothing was added unless it was necessary.
Traditional materials combined with classic craftsmanship make for eye-catching design pieces which can sit comfortably alongside more contemporary furniture styles.
Along with iconic pieces from designers like Saarinen, Jacobsen, Eames and Aalto, Twentieth Century Furniture also stocks furniture from designers like Borge, Mogensen, Hans Wegner, Poul Kjaerholm, and Finn Juhl.
The range of pieces available include a wide selection of dining tables (from €1,400), dining chairs (from €200) and sofas (from €1,000) in both teak and rosewood. Prior to its move to Habitat, Twentieth Century Furniture traded (since 1999) from a shop on Cow's Lane in Temple Bar.
Then, it was a destination shop for people who knew what they were looking for, now the delights of Scandinavian classic design are on show for all Habitat shoppers.
