129 homes for D14 rejected: O'Malley Construction Company's second attempt to build a residential development at Knockrabo in Goatstown, Dublin 14 has failed.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has refused planning permission for 103 apartments and 26 houses - it said the site adjoins a reservation for a major road development, the Sandyford to Saint Helen's Link.
The 4.9-acre site is bounded by Salamanca, Salzburg and Heidelberg roads in Ardilea. Local residents came out in force against the development and objected on the grounds of its density, and the proposal to turn a cul-de-sac in the Ardilea estate into a through road.
In its decision, the council said the proximity of the proposed development to the reservation and "the lack of certainty regarding levels on the proposed road and to the current status of the planning process for the proposed road" would mean it would be premature "pending the determination of a road layout for the area".
Green light for 227 homes in D7
Bernard McNamara's Cableside Developments has been granted permission to build 227 residential units in four blocks at the former Department of Defence on Infirmary Road, Dublin 7.
This will involve demolishing six buildings on site, removing a lean-to structure and the refurbishment of the former isolation hospital and its conversion into a 20-space crèche, offices, meeting rooms and a community health clinic.
The former married quarters would also be refurbished and a 546sq m (5,844sq ft) four-storey extension built which would be converted to office use.
Mixed-use plan for print works
In Kilmainham David Patton and Sons has been given the thumbs up for a mixed-use development at the 0.25-acre former Fodhla printing works on Brookfield Road, Dublin 8.
It will build a development of 11 duplex and triplex apartments with roof terraces and terraced houses, 1,768sq m (19,031sq ft) of office accommodation, 46 car-parking spaces and open space in the courtyard.
Last year Dublin City Council refused planning permission for 24 apartments and duplexes in two blocks, a four-bed house, offices and a media suite on the grounds it would constitute a substandard form of development.
