Royal Dublin Golf Club applies to extend and revampThe Royal Dublin Golf Club at Bull Island nature reserve in Dollymount, Dublin 3 is looking to revamp and extend its premises.
It is about to apply for planning permission to Dublin City Council for a first floor extension to the clubhouse incorporating a new members bar, grille bar and a new Christy O'Connor room with roof terraces. The proposal is also for a new passenger lift and kitchen extension on the ground floor.
In November 2004 An Taisce lost its bid to stop the Royal Dublin Golf Club raising and extending the embankment along its north-west boundary on Bull Island in north Dublin Bay.
An Taisce said the works would disturb protected species and cause a deterioration in habitats.
However, An Bord Pleanála ruled that the development would not "seriously injure2, the natural, cultural, visual amenities of the area, or of property in the vicinity".
Apartment scheme in Beaumont reduced from 175 to 125 units
Former RTÉ broadcaster Brendan Balfe and his neighbours have lost their appeal to halt a high-rise development of apartments in nine blocks beside their homes at Collinswood in Beaumont, Dublin 9.
However, a series of conditions imposed by An Board Pleanála has dramatically reduced the number of apartments permitted from 175, as originally sought, to under 125.
The developer, Adroit Company Ltd, has been told to omit two blocks from the proposed development pending a revised proposal for the blocks in which there are no single aspect or north-facing apartments.
Among the locals against the proposal were Beaumont Residents Association, which said the proposal by Adroit Company Ltd - whose directors are Martin and Patricia Lydon - to create a new entrance from Beaumont Road would increase traffic and affect emergency services from Beaumont Hospital.
Brendan Balfe and others said that the proposed crèche would create traffic problems with people from outside the estate coming in to drop-off and collect their children.
