Locals have opposed plans for an apartment development at a well-known Dún Laoghaire pub. Permission granted for an apartment development behind Smyth's pub in Dún Laoghaire has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council granted permission for the refurbishment of the front portion of the bar and the demolition of a rear structure to make way for 12 one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

However, this decision has been appealed to the planning board by Frances and Mary Lennon and William Donnelly. The Lennons said the scheme, if it gets the green light, will result in a loss of living space and a deterioration in the quality of life of the residents in the immediate vicinity. The development will also exacerbate existing traffic problems, they added.

Woodbridge Developments has been given permission to build 97 apartments in a single five-storey block on a 1.9-acre site in Dublin 18 on behalf of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Meanwhile, An Bord Pleanála has reversed a decision by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to refuse permission for 28 residential units at Ancrum, also on Harold's Grange Road.
