Sandyford tower appealedLakelands Residents Association is one of four appellants to An Bord Pleanála against a high rise scheme at the former Siemens site on the Ballymoss Road in Sandyford, Dublin 18.

The site in Sandyford Industrial Estate is owned by a consortium of investors that bought it for a reported €20 million and who are looking to build a mixed-use development with a 20-storey office block.

The residents association says it will constitute overdevelopment of "an extremely small site" and cause overlooking and loss of privacy and "completely undermine the open-plan concept on which the Lakelands community was founded". It added that the proposed development is "unattractive, unimaginative, uninspiring and monolithic" and the height is disproportionate with other structures in the area.

The consortium is looking to build an office, retail and residential complex on the site, which is located on what is regarded as a prime position in the area facing the Luas line and Blackthorn Drive.

The proposal is to demolish all the buildings on the site and build two blocks, one of which would be 10 storeys over basement with 785sq m (8,450sq ft) of retail floor space and 71 apartments. The 20-storey building would have 7,883sq m (84,851sq ft) of office floor space.

293 homes for D24 site

Developer Airscape has applied for planning permission to South Dublin County Council to build 293 residential units at Cooldown Commons, Fortunestown Lane in Dublin 24. Airscape is controlled by Harcourt Developments, which is owned by Pat Doherty with directors broadcaster Mike Murphy, Robert Langdon, Patrick John Power, John Doherty and Conal Harvey.

This application follows the rezoning of an 78-acre greenbelt earlier this year by South Dublin County Council. Harcourt owns 72.5 acres of the site with developer Jim Mansfield owning the remaining 5.5 acres. If successful, the development would be a mix of five-bed detached three-storey houses, three and four bed semi-detached three-storey houses, and three-bed three-storey townhouses.

There would also be two and three-bed duplex units in nine four-storey blocks, and two and three-bed apartments and three-bed duplex apartments in five-storey blocks.
