30 apartments for Blackrock site: Only a month after An Bord Pleanála refused permission for a development of 11 detached houses in the grounds of Ferndene on Deansgrange Road in Blackrock, Co Dublin, the developer John O'Connor has come back with a plan for 30 apartments in three curved blocks on the site. The proposal is also for underground parking for 45 cars.
The previous development of 11 houses was refused on the grounds that the scale, form and layout, including proximity to site boundaries, "would result in a significant breach of the building line on Deansgrange Road".
Local residents, particularly those on Rowan Park and Rockville estate, are believed to be gearing up to object to the new proposal on the grounds of scale and overlooking, and that the new entrance would present a serious traffic hazard.
Eight-screen cinema for D13 site
Gannon Homes is about to seek planning permission from Dublin City Council for an eight-screen cinema at its mixed-use development at Clongriffin, Dublin 13. The cinema complex would also include four retail units, a café bar, offices, a community centre, and a crèche on a greenfield 0.811-hectare site. The proposal for the site, which is surrounded by Clongriffin Road, Market Street, Lake Street and Dargan Street and which will incorporate Market Square, is also for a basement car-park fronting Lake Street with 36 staff car-parking spaces.
Sports upgrade at UCD appealed
A proposal by UCD to upgrade the Belfield Bowl has been challenged by a local resident. UCD wants to upgrade the spectator and playing facilities at Belfield Bowl which would incorporate 840 seats to replace part of the existing standing capacity, extending the perimeter fence and relocating sports activities from Belfield Park on Foster's Avenue to the bowl. Mary Glazier, with an address at Greenfield Park, Donnybrook has appealed planning permission for the development which she believes will affect her property because of its scale. Her house is 50 metres from the development and says there are no proposals to screen the stadium from her house. She is concerned that Belfield Bowl will be used by rugby and soccer teams, trebling the number of games at the stadium. Her appeal contends that the use of the facility by the soccer club will bring bigger crowds to the venue. The noise, nuisance and disturbance generated by the development are also concerns.
