Golf museum at Carton Demesne: Anyone who thinks that golf is nothing more than a good walk ruined will be amazed at the thought of a golf museum - and a national one at that.
But plans to develop one at the magnificent Carton Demesne, above, have come up against a brick wall in the form of an appeal to An Bord Pleanála by An Taisce. Swinbrook Developments has applied for "headquarters, a national golf museum and car-parking" at the stately spread in Maynooth, Co Kildare but it's now back with the planners for a final decision.
Forty homes for Dalkey corner site
Proof that every square metre of spare land in Dalkey is viewed by developers as a potential building site is seen yet again in a new planning application for a corner site at the junction of Dalkey Park and Mapas Road. The proposed development includes the familiar configuration of four three-storey blocks with 40 units in a mix of duplex townhouses and apartments. Not all applications succeed: An Bord Pleanála's decided to refuse an ambitious scheme for nearby Dalkey Avenue where the plan to demolish an existing garage and build three three-storey townhouses.
Mixed scheme for garage site
Anyone who has driven by the forecourt of Owell Motors in Rathgar and thought of it as a modest enough retail space will be interested in just how much room there appears to be on the Dublin 6 site. Galway-man Sean Joyce has just submitted an application to demolish the garage and build a four-storey block with 14 apartments, a large retail area and basement car-parking for 28 cars.
