Locals appeal Clontarf development A proposed apartment scheme at a Victorian era house in Clontarf, Dublin 3, will "dwarf" the period house, according to local residents who are objecting to the development.
Developer Mark Pigott has been given the go-ahead to build 37 apartments in a five-storey apartment block and nine townhouses at Redcourt House, which is on Seafield Road West in Clontarf, Dublin 3.
In 2006 plans to demolish the house and build 54 apartments were refused by the council and later by An Bord Pleanála. Clontarf Residents' Association says that the scheme is inconsistent with development in the area. "We believe that this latest proposal would have a seriously negative impact on this amenity. Redcourt House, although now being retained, will be completely overshadowed and dwarfed by what we considered to be an overdevelopment of the site and the architectural standing of the original house will be negated."
223 houses for Waterford
The way has been cleared for over 200 houses on the outskirts of Waterford city. Following the withdrawal of an appeal from Frank Roche and neighbours from Newtown, Ferrybank, the developer, Ferrybank Development Partnership, has got the all clear to go ahead with the scheme. It will see 223 houses and one crèche built at Christendom, Ferrybank, Co Kilkenny, which is on the outskirts of Waterford city.
Nine-storey block for Smithfield
Plans for a nine-storey office block with a rooftop bar/restaurant in Smithfield, Dublin 7, have been submitted to Dublin City Council. The scheme will involve the demolition of Smithfield Chambers, which was once home to Windsor Motors and also houses the Probation and Welfare Service.
Numbers 1-6 Haymarket will also be demolished if the scheme gets approval from council planners. Linders of Smithfield Ltd, which lists Joe and Patrick Linders and Brian Cullen as directors, is looking for permission to replace these buildings with an office development of 10,642sq m (114,549sq ft). The scheme will comprise one floor of commercial space, six storeys of offices and a two-storey restaurant/bar.
