Council says yes to redevelopment of city architect's D4 houseDublin City Council has granted permission for a small residential scheme at the house of city architect Jim Barrett in Dublin 4. The council has approved plans for the demolition of his home at 19 Eglinton Wood in Donnybrook, located off Eglinton Road, to make way for four houses.
Barrett has an agreement to sell his house to a Limerick-based developer Pat Keogh who has applied for planning permission at the site.
The houses, designed by architects Mitchell and Associates, have external decks and basement level car-parking. Access to the scheme will be via an existing right of way through an apartment scheme on Eglinton Road.
Locals criticise Denis O'Brien's plans for Donnybrook office block
Denis O'Brien's plans for an office block on the Donnybrook site where he was refused permission for a 26-storey residential tower two years ago have been criticised by locals.
The entrepreneur was given the all clear by Dublin City Council last April for a six-storey office block at the former Bizquip retail outlet at 25-27 Donnybrook Road and 1-3 The Crescent.
Locals have appealed Dublin City Council's decision to grant permission for the scheme to An Bord Pleanála on the grounds of height and over-development.
The 4,959sq m (53,378sq ft) block, which the local residents have criticised, is significantly smaller than that ambitious 87-metre (285ft) tower O'Brien originally planned for the site. This was refused by the planning board.
