Bord turns down Jim Mansfield's plan for Weston AerodromeBusinessman Jim Mansfield has received a blow to his plans to develop Weston Aerodrome in west Dublin with a decision by An Bord Pleanála to refuse permission for the refurbishment of portacabins on the site.
Mansfield was looking for permission to move the cabins - used as a reception, briefing rooms and simulators - from the south-west end of Weston Aerodrome to the north-west of the site.
Going against the recommendation of its own inspector, the planning board refused permission because it would result in an "intensification of the use of the aerodrome".
Temporary portacabin units alongside a modern aerodrome facility would "constitute disorderly development and would seriously injure the visual amenities of the area", the board added.
Mansfield, owner of the City West Hotel, has been served with a number of enforcement notices and planning rejections at Weston Aerodrome since he bought it in 2001.
