• Wicklow leisure complex appealed
An Taisce has appealed planning permission granted to Norpark Investments Ltd by Wicklow County Council to build a tourism and leisure complex near Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow because of inadequate traffic management by the developers.
Norpark was granted planning permission for an 184-bed hotel, 23 apartments, an 18-hole executive golf course, a health and leisure academy, an interpretive and education centre, an amenity lake, extensive landscaping and road infrastructure. The "summer sun and winter snow" facility at Ballinahinch Lower would have access from the N11 and An Taisce says this would contribute to traffic congestion at the junction of the N11 and M50. It says there is a lack of public transport to the avenue, and the site is unsuitable for a major scale tourism and leisure facility. Another appeal was lodged by Hugh and Bernie McDaid and others.
• Student housing rejected
A developer has been refused planning permission by An Bord Pleanála to build 24 student residents in a two-storey development over Supervalu supermarket at Clonkeen Road, Deansgrange. However, he was granted permission to extend the supermarket and alter the shop front.
Deansgrange Residents Area Action Group (DRAAG) appealed planning permission on the grounds of the scale and proposed height, a lack of car-parking, and a lack of any waste management and traffic plan.
An Bord Pleanála ruled that the proposed student accommodation, caretaker's flat and extension to the first floor offices would be visually obtrusive because of its height, bulk and scaling. It said the development would generate demand for car-parking not met locally and lead to on-street car-parking.
• Foxhunter Pub plan turned down
An Bord Pleanála has overturned planning permission for 19 apartments and duplexes in two blocks behind the Foxhunter Pub in Ballydowd, Lucan, Co Dublin. Planning permission granted by South Dublin County Council was appealed by Hermitage Park Residents Association and Hermitage Garden Local group who were concerned about the mass, scale and density of the scheme and the consequent depreciation in value of their property.
