Howth Harbour plan appealed
Planning permission granted to BJ Marine Howth Ltd to build a single storey sales, repair and maintenance office for fishing and pleasure craft on reclaimed land on the Centre Pier in Howth has been appealed.
One of the parties - a local couple - say the development will obstruct views of Ireland's Eye and the lighthouse from Howth.
They maintained: "In contrast to the fishing boats moored at the Centre Pier, which are never in the same place for very long, the proposed development would be static, permanent."
They also submitted that any development on this site could "create a precedent and encourage others to consider reclaiming land from the harbour."
Killiney Court Hotel development scheme hits planning snag
An Bord Pleanála has notified the owner of the Killiney Court Hotel that the site notice of its planning application to build 48 apartments on the site does not comply with statutory requirements and has instructed it to erect a new notice in a conspicuous position near or at the main entrance.
"The board is of the opinion that the new notice . . . is necessary for the purpose of enabling it to determine the appeal" said a letter to architects for the project Henry J Lyons.
It also asked that a revised newspaper notice be submitted as the proposed development involves carrying out works to a protected structure.
The planning application is for a change of use and refurbishment of the original house to residential use in two units.
The development includes a basement car park with 75 car-parking spaces, the reconfiguration of access roads and landscaping including the reduction of external parking provision to 35 spaces.
Rhode (Ireland) Ltd, a company controlled by Bert Allen of Slaney Meats in Wexford, bought the hotel from the Buckley family for €7.62 million. Mr Allen is also involved with a number of Bewleys franchised hotels.
Other directors of Rhode (Ireland) Ltd include Maurice Allen and Patrick Asple.
Planning permission granted to Rhode (Ireland) Ltd last month by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by Donal O'hAodha with an address at Burnaby, Greystones, Co Wicklow and Bernadette McCormick with an address at Saintbury Avenue, Killiney, Co Dublin.
