Shopfront: A wet room is a fully waterproofed bathroom without enclosures. The walls of the bathroom form the boundaries of the shower. That means no shower tray and an optional glass panel to partly screen the shower.

Water is allowed fall across the floor and steam fill the space, giving a steam-room feel to your shower. The most important thing to get right is the details: most importantly, water must flow towards a drain. If this is in the middle of the room, it will require building up the sides of the room above the level of the drain.

Creating a leak-proof room is complex too: the structure of the room must be very stable (ground floor is better than first) and waterproofed with a layer of fibreglass or lead.

A wet room is ideal for a small bathroom where enclosing the shower in a separate cubicle would encroach on the space but a small wet room is not the best place for storage. In larger wet rooms, storage can be fitted well away from the shower. Apart from tiling, various types of stone are popular choices for wet room cladding but even wood can be used if properly sealed.
