Dublin publican Frank Gleeson has emerged as the purchaser of one of the city's best-established live music venues, Whelan's of Wexford Street. John Ryan, of Gunne, who handled the private treaty sale, would not disclose the purchase price but it is believed the property achieved around £4 million. Whelan's is probably the best established live music venue in Dublin specialising in rock, blues, traditional, World and country music, attracting a diverse clientele. As well as the main music venue, Whelan's comprises a traditional-style bar opening on to Wexford Street. The property was sold on behalf of Mr Liam Hanlon who spent years building up the pub's musical side. The purchaser, Mr Gleeson, also owns The Shanty pub in Mulhuddart.
