92 Jeep Renegade: a big hit across Europe

Boxy bodied Fiat Chrysler Jeep has been a roaring success elsewhere but not in Ireland

Our test drive: the Jeep Renegade

A Fiat Chrysler product that sells a lot fewer cars in the Irish market than perhaps it deserves to. The Renegade has been a storming success for the Jeep brand in Europe and America, but Irish buyers have responded with a resounding “meh”. Which is a shame as, bar a few bum notes, the Renegade is actually quite a good little vehicle. Not all will love its upright, boxy, somewhat-retro looks, but at least it actually looks like a proper small 4x4 and not a hatchback with notions (which is realistically what it is). That boxy body is quite roomy inside, although the boot is just a touch too small for it to do realistic duty as a proper family car. Cabin quality isn’t bad either, but there are too many swaths of cheap plastic, and refinement is not a Renegade strong point. It’s okay to drive though, and incredibly good off-road if you spec it up to the nines as a 4WD Trailhawk model, which is hardly the point in this class, but impressive nonetheless.
