The next generation Land Rover Discovery, due for launch at the end of next year, will be the first model in the marque to move from the Rover V8 that was developed from a lightweight Buick engine in the 1960s.
The V8 for the next Discovery will be a derivative of the 4.2-litre engine currently used by Jaguar in several of its models, including a supercharged 400bhp version designated as 'R'.
The next Discovery will also shift its diesel allegience, to the new Peugeot-Citroen/Ford 2.7-litre V6 diesel due to debut in Jaguar and Citröen cars in the first half of next year.
