NEW CAR SALES UP:New cars sold for the first four months of the year were 117,742, up 5.5 per cent on the same period last year.
Toyota remains the best-selling car brand in Ireland, with 14.8 per cent of the market, while Ford has been toppled from second spot, now taken by VW with 11 per cent. Ford now has 10.8 per cent of the market.
Cyril McHugh, chief executive of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) said the figures were very satisfactory. "It will be interesting to see over the next few months whether there is an SSIA impact following the release of €7 billion from May 1st," he said.
RECALL FOR SORENTOS:Kia is recalling 856 Sorento models registered after November and built between May 4th last year and March 28th. The problem arises with the airbag control unit in right-hand-drive versions.
According to a Kia spokesperson, owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by Kia Ireland as soon as possible, and asked to contact their local Kia dealer for remedial work to be carried out free of charge.
