EVO - THE NEXT GENERATION:After numerous concepts, Mitsubishi has released images of what the next generation Lancer Evolution will look like.

This will be the 10th generation of the Evo, an icon among car enthusiasts. Powered by a 2-litre engine with an aluminium cylinder block, the new Evo will come with a six-speed automated manual gearbox that's similar to VW's DSG dual clutch system, but developed in-house by the Japanese brand.

No performance figures are available, but don't expect it to run any slower than the current barn-storming version.

The production version will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show this autumn, and will reach showrooms in time for 2008 sales.

SAFETY CONCERNS OVER ELECTRIC VEHICLE:

The first of two British government tests on environmentally-friendly quadricycles have highlighted "serious safety concerns".

The European Commission is now being asked to review the safety regulations for such vehicles. Despite its name, a quadricycle is really a small car and is bigger than a quad bike. The UK Department for Transport (DFT) ran crash tests on a REVA G-Wiz electric vehicle of the type being used more and more on mainstream roads.

The vehicle passed the European requirement for quadricycles. But the DFT added: "When it was subjected to the same impact test expected of normal cars, serious safety concerns were highlighted."

Roads Minister Stephen Ladyman said: "The safety regulations that govern this type of vehicle were designed at a time when it was thought they would cover four-wheeled motorcycles, not city run-abouts that resemble small cars."
