Lexus is introducing its new GS300h in the coming weeks with the new premium variant aimed directly at 2-litre diesel rivals, particularly BMW’s 520d SE.
While the prices, starting at €48,950, are still a little higher than some rivals the specification levels are very high, with full leather trim and a host of features that are optional on its German rivals.
Powered by the same hybrid combination of 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 143bhp electric motor, the total output from the powertrain is 223bhp with a electronic controlled continuously variably transmission. Emissions levels are a class leading 109g/km while average fuel economy is claimed at 4.8 l/100km (58.9mpg) by the Toyota owned brand.
Lexus Ireland estimate 100 will be sold in 2014 through its four dealers.
