Your bike? A Suzuki Bandit 600cc

When did you become a biker? I started riding bikes when I was 15 years old. My very first bike was a scooter - a Honda Vision 50cc. It cost me only £90. I used it for messing around on, riding up and down my driveway. When I was 16 I bought a Suzuki Katona scooter and after that I got my first proper bike, an Aprilia RS 50.

What bikes have you had since? I got a Yamaha ZZR 125 which I crashed and after that a Kymco Stryker 125 which was terrible. I've had the Bandit ever since - it's running fine and I'm very happy with it.

What do you use the Bandit for? I commute from Skerries to Ballsbridge where I work - it takes 30 minutes. I do 70 kilometres per day. I also love riding for pleasure and hope to go touring on it with my brother next year.

Have you added any accessories? I take really good care of it because I think basic maintenance is very important. I fitted a bikini faring on the front because of the strain from riding on the M50. I change the tyres regularly for safety.

Had any accidents? Yes, two. A few years ago when I was riding to work on a January morning there was black ice on the road and the back wheel skidded. I was left for dead - three cars just drove around me.

I had another accident on a roundabout in Darndale - my fault. I hit the kerb and flew 20 feet up in the air. I landed on one side of the road and the bike went in the other direction. Some young lads tried to steal the bike but luckily I'd been out riding with some mates so they made sure I was all right and ran the young lads.

My pocket was the worst hit after that accident and I couldn't get another bike for a while.

Are you a fan of motorsport? I'm hugely interested in road racing. I love watching it and have been to lots of road races and to the Isle of Man TT. I think it's a sport that's dying out though because the cost of insurance is so high. The racers are becoming more professional but people who live in the areas around the tracks are always trying to have it stopped.

Any biking issues for the government? Well, I'd love to see bikers allowed to use bus lanes - it's far safer than filtering through the traffic. I've had plenty of incidents where car drivers open doors when they're stopped at traffic lights and I've been taken out. I also think there's a big insurance problem in this country. And it's ridiculous that a young guy can hop on a bike capable of doing 120mph with a provisional licence. I also feel very strongly about the barriers along the motorways. They are lethal if you crash - they're banned in every other country in Europe so they shouldn't be used in this country.

Do you think bikers have a bad name? Yes and I think motorists treat bikers very badly. They try to block you off if you're trying to get through traffic. I think Mercedes drivers are the worst for doing this. It's the little boy racers speeding on the roads in their modified cars that are dangerous, not bikers.
