While much of the attention has been on the powerful Z4 M Roadster and the stunning hard-top coupé version, the standard Z4 has also been given the customary mid-life tweaking.
According to Martin Klanner, head of the Z4 project team, "it was really a case of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. We received feedback about the ride being a bit firm so we have altered this to find a better balance between comfort and sport."
Visually, the car gains new bumpers, new fog lamps, and the indicator lens is now positioned in the wheel arch.
The real news concerns the engines; they start with a 2-litre four-cylinder 150bhp unit, but it is the new 2.5-litre 177bhp six-cylinder unit that suits the car best.
This engine replaces the 2.2-litre block in the previous Z4. The now ubiquitous 3-litre unit, with 265bhp, tops the range. All models come with six-speed manual transmission or the option of a new Sport Automatic that offers shift paddles on the steering wheel.
The new Z4 range goes on sale this month with prices starting at €48,250 for the 2-litre model up to €69,375 for the 3-litre Si Sport model and €91,150 for the Z4 M.
