LANCIA, WHICH probably isn’t enjoying much success in selling cars across Europe, has turned to the ocean instead and produced a powerboat that appeared at the Venice International Film Festival.

The boat has been developed jointly with Italian firms Sacs, which produces luxury Ribs; FPT, part of the Fiat Group; and Martini, a regular partner of Lancia when it comes to racing.

The Lancia Powerboat was designed by Christian Grande and has a fibreglass hull that measures 13.10 metres in length, with a broad beam of 3.83 metres.

The boat uses two N67-560 engines by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and these put out 1,120 horsepower, delivered at 3,000rpm, to provide cruising speeds of 15-45 knots, while top speed under ideal loading conditions tops 55 knots.

Occupants can sun themselves at the touch of a button as the hood retracts into a dedicated compartment, leaving the cockpit open to the sun. Martini Racing graphics add a sporting touch to the overall look.

In the cabin, the lounge converts quickly to a double bunk. The boat can carry 11, but sleeps two. There is no word on price yet for the boat, which will debut at the Genoa boat show in October, but if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.
