Now in its third year, the Pioneer Run of the Royal Irish Automobile Club has quickly established itself as a premier event on the Irish old car calendar. It caters for both cars and motorcycles built before the end of 1904, and also has a centenary class for cars and motorcycles manufactured in 1905 and 1906.

Some 30 cars and motorcycles will take part in this year's event which features a cavalcade through Dublin from the Mansion House to Farmleigh House on the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday.

There is a display of participating cars and motorcycles on the forecourt of the Mansion House and in the RIAC Clubhouse garage on Saturday June 3rd between 2 and 5pm.

The cars and motorcycles will be started by the Lord Mayor on Sunday morning at 9.30am with 'oldest going first'.

This year that honour falls to the 1897 Leon Bollee Tri-car of Philip Bewley. The Leon Bollee was the Ferrari of its day, having a top speed of over 60mph at a time when the speed limit was just 12mph!

At the end of the cavalcade the cars and motorcycles will pause to give spectators a chance to see them at Farmleigh House from 10am to 10.45am before heading along the Strawberry Beds on the run proper. The route will take them through Lucan, Leixlip, Maynooth and Kilcock.
