Routes to avoid around the country in the week ahead.
There are lots of events this week and all may affect traffic. Perhaps the biggest event is the Irish Cancer Society's Terry Fox Fun Run for Cancer Research next Sunday.
Over 80 runs will take place, including Kinsale, Co Cork, The Lough in Cork City, Roscommon town, Tralee, Drogheda, Dundalk, and Ashford, Co Wicklow.

DUBLIN:
Strand Road at Sutton Dart Station has been closing for weekends to construct a portion of the North Fringe Pipeline. This week the road will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 19th. Motorists can take the alternative route, via the Main street, Baldoyle/ Warrenhouse Road, Baldoyle Road/ Dublin Road to Sutton Cross to vice versa.
The Coombe will be closed at its junction with the Coombe Relief Road until Monday, November 11th, to allow the construction of a new manhole. Northbound and southbound traffic is being diverted via Ardee Street.
CORK:
The Cork Fringe Festival is underway until October 26th. This year will mark the fourth year of the Cork Fringe Festival, featuring the best of contemporary theatre and dance worldwide. Expect heavier traffic on all main routes into the city for the duration of the festival.
There will be roadworks at the Wilton Shopping Centre on Sarsfield Road from October 14th to mid-February for construction of a dual carriageway. The works will be in place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, excluding weekends. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
Resurfacing is underway and will continue for approximately seven weeks along the N22 through the villages of Ballymakeera and Ballyvourney.
WICKLOW:
Two sets of roadworks may add time to your journey this week; roadworks are underway on the N11 at Tighes Avenue between Ashford and Rathnew until further notice. Also, the road between Rathnew and Glenealy is reduced to one lane to facilitate construction of a bridge for the Rathnew bypass.
KILKENNY:
Temporary lights and roadworks started on Monday on the N78, Castlecomer to Athy Road at Crettyard. The works are in place at Crettyard until the end of October at least.
GALWAY:
Repair works on the N65 at Portumna Bridge will continue daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday, until November 1st. Traffic is reduced to one lane and temporary lights will operate. Delays of 15 minutes normally result when a bridge lift takes place, but up to a 30 minute hold-up may result during these works.
LIMERICK:
Verdant Place in Limerick City will be closed to traffic until Sunday November 17th.
