Skoda to scrap its Fabia hot hatch from next year

Poor sales stall sporty RS, but Monte Carlo styling pack will feature across range from next year

It’s bad news and good news on the sporty Skoda front. The bad news is that the 180bhp Fabia RS hot hatch is to be dropped when the all-new Fabia arrives next year. The hot Fabia is being axed because it’s simply not selling strongly enough, and so there won’t be a replacement. That will leave the hugely impressive new Octavia RS (below) as the only truly sporting Skoda.

There is some good news, though; the sporty-ish Monte Carlo styling pack will continue to be offered on the Fabia, and it will spread to pretty much every other model in the Skoda range, even to the Yeti crossover. Skoda reckons that buyers like its sporty looks mixed with the fact that you can buy it with cheap-to-run engines.

Shame about the RS, though – we liked that one.
