There, one person is killed every 28 minutes in traffic accidents on Tehran's chaotic streets, according to the municipality.

The majority of accidents were caused by the poor condition of vehicles, the city said, estimating that some 200,000 dangerous cars, trucks and motorcycles are sold every year in the country.

Another cause is the haphazard driving of many Iranians, who famously seem to regard the rules of the road as mere suggestions.
