Hard shoulder:UPCOMING CITY centre traffic restrictions in Dublin mean people will have to rely on bicycles or walk, according to Dublin City Council's Strategic Policy Committee.

While motorists have in the past been assured that there would be no road pricing or congestion charging in the city centre until a public transport alternative was in place, the committee was told yesterday there would be few alternatives while the proposed public transport infrastructure is being built.

Committee chairman, Councillor Sean Kenny, said the building of Metro stations and resultant traffic exclusions will mean restricting motorists in the city centre.
