Before you get your pictures hung, make sure they are framed correctly.
A frame should protect and complement an artwork. Nicolas Gore Grimes of the Cross Gallery recommends David Kirwin of Artisan Framers(Unit 6J, Gurtnafleur Business Park, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, 052-81909). Although he also does regular framing, much of his work is of conservation standard.
Liam Slattery(01-4978446) in Rathmines, D6, works with galleries such as Ib Jorgensen and the Solomon. This is who to go to if you have work by an important artist. He's top end, with prices to match, but the work is exquisite - he makes the frames himself, using expensive finishes.
Art Framing & Bona Crux(01-4754036) on Whitefriar Street, D2, is particularly strong on traditional frames but has styles to suit contemporary art, too. The shop is modest but counts Michael Smurfit among its customers. It also has great Victorian and Georgian prints.
J&J Framing(01-4971129) in Ranelagh, D6, is good for framing more everyday pictures and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Framemakersin Stillorgan Industrial Park, Co Dublin (01-2954500), also does a good job on a budget.
In Cork, Rosemary Jones of high-end furniture shop Bellisima suggests Gallery 44(021-4501319) on Mac Curtain Street. "They're professional, know what they were doing and have everything."
