Rosita Boland’s article 'Weather Eye' takes a tour of the country’s weather stations, and it was inevitable that Brendan McWilliams’s name would crop up at some point.
From 1988 until his death in 2007, McWilliams wrote his passionate and beautifully articulate column Weather Eye for this newspaper. There are several collections available of McWilliams's work: Weather Eye: The Final Year(€14.99) contains columns from the last year of his life, selected by his wife, Anne; and The Book of Weather Eye(€17.80) contains articles from 2006 onwards. Both are published by Gill Macmillan. There is no finer guide to what is in the wind in Ireland than the writing of Brendan McWilliams.
