THE SOCIAL NETWORK:The foyer of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre resembled the Four Courts on Tuesday evening at the opening of Legally Blonde – The Musical. Many barristers are currently on Easter vacation as the new term does not commence until Monday.

Theresa Lowe was joined by a group of her legal friends, many of whom opted for black (it is the new black after all, apparently). It’s been 15 years since the former host of RTÉ quiz show Where in the World? forsook Montrose for life at the Bar.

Lowe saw the show in Brighton last month and was amazed by the performances, so she decided to see it again in Dublin. Faye Brookes plays the lead role of Elle Woods. “Elle is a brilliant barrister, looks fabulous and has a great legal brain,” said Lowe. Another barrister, Niamh O’Carroll-Kelly, was in Theresa’s study group at King’s Inns when they were training for the Bar. They’ve remained close friends ever since.

The DPP’s office was ably represented by Audrey Balfe. She had been a blonde up until a few weeks ago but she decided to dye her hair red. On Tuesday evening she was legally auburn.

Garda Sgt Amelia Nolan from Store Street Garda Station joined the ladies on their night out and revealed how she got to know them “through processing High Court bails”.

Katie Van Buren and Stephen Byrne, the presenters of RTÉ gossip show Juice, were joined by Diana Bunici, who presents the RTÉ young people’s show Elev8. Curiously, the three of them spent their early childhoods outside Ireland – Bunici in Moldova, Byrne in Australia and Van Buren in the US.

Theresa Lowe’s daughter Charlotte McNamara arrived in with her friend Katie O’Neill and the pair of them confessed to being highly excited at meeting the presenters.

Anne Boylan of Suburbia magazine was looking very elegant. “I don’t do casual very well,” she said. She’s not to be confused with Anne Boleyn. “I have a son,” she confirmed, adding that she has a penchant for ballroom dancing and is looking forward to doing the cha-cha at Sean Smullen’s studio at the Greenane Dance Academy in Rathdrum, Co Wicklow next Saturday. She was accompanied by Edward Smith, the editor and publisher of Suburbia magazine, who had just put the latest edition to bed.

The theatre’s general manager Stephen Faloon made sure that beauty therapist Gillian Bainton from Greystones was treated like a VIP on the night. She was the venue’s one millionth customer and has been presented with a year’s pass.
