It’s not a brand new game, but Bananagrams came into our house for the first time in December, to great acclaim. It’s a kind of freestyle Scrabble, with each player making up their own configuration of words. This makes the proceedings faster and, it has to be said, a lot easier.
But it’s good fun and a brain teaser all the same, and won the approval of a very smart seven-year-old we met, as well as some more mature wordsmiths. It’s a good travel game, too, in case you encounter volcanic ash or snow. You can find it at Nimble Fingers in Stillorgan, Co Dublin, for €19.99.
