When Kathy Dillon and Rôs Marrinan started their sportswear company in 2006, they recognised a few gaps in the Irish market. Although there are more than 60,000 women golfers in this country – who knew? – most of the clothes designed for them were imported and best suited to skinny, long-legged gazelles. So they decided to produce some classic designs that would fit all shapes and sizes. Thus bluegreen.ie was born.
The skirts – and stylish, forgiving, fluid slipovers, complete with side slits – are available online, for golfers all over the world, but they will be on sale at a special price next weekend at the AIB Ladies Open at Killeen Castle in Dunsany, Co Meath (August 6th-8th).
The skirts are made of 100 per cent Irish linen, particularly suitable for golfers in sunnier climes such as Portugal, Spain or Florida. Their gaberdine skirts are generally better suited to Irish temperatures, although this summer it has been balmy enough to wear linen.
Sporty classics remain the smartest look on the course, says Marrinan, and these skirts come in a good range of lengths and sizes. This shot was taken on Powerscourt golf course, with accessories from the pro shop there. Dig those two-toned shoes.
